The aim of the first part in this course is to describe various methods used for modeling and evaluating survival data, also called time-to-event data. General statistical concepts and methods discussed in this course include survival and hazard functions, Kaplan-Meier graphs, log-rank and related tests and Cox proportional hazards model.
The second part of the course will focus on the analysis of contingency table data, where the cell entries represent counts that are cross-tabulated using categorical variables. Tests for (conditional) independence are discussed in the context of odds-ratios, relative risks and simple Chi²-tests. Upon successful completion of this courses, participants will be able to check test specific assumptions and will be familiar with common statistical methods in survival and categorical data analysis. The participants will have the ability to choose the suitable statistical analysis method for different data sets and will have insight how to interpret statistical results.
Survival analysis (Part 1): Overview of different Survival models, focussed on Kaplan Meier and Log Rank test, Cox Regression;
Analyzing categorical data (Part 2): Odds Ratio, Relative-Risk, Chi², McNemar, estimation of cut-offs, ROC/AUC analysis, sensitivity and specifity, scientific presentation of results;

Komm diesen Sonntag zum HTU Gardening Day!
Wir krempeln die Ärmel hoch und packen gemeinsam an, um die praktische Seite der Nachhaltigkeit zu erleben. Gemeinsam bereiten wir ein Hochbeet an der Technischen Universität Graz vor, jäten Unkraut, säen Blumen, lernen etwas über Kompostierung, pflanzen Gemüse, kümmern uns ums Gießen und erfahren mehr über heimische Pflanzen, die du ganz einfach zu Hause anbauen kannst. Lasst uns zusammen gärtnern und dabei ganz viel Neues lernen!
Und das Beste?
Du hast die Möglichkeit, einige der Pflanzen, die wir gemeinsam anbauen, mit nach Hause zu nehmen oder du setzt sie in dein eigenes Hochbeet, wenn du eine Hochbeetpatenschaft übernimmst.

Come and join us at the HTU-Gardening Day this Sunday!
We’ll be rolling up our sleeves and getting hands-on with the practical side of sustainability. Together, we’ll prepare a raised garden bed at the Technical University of Graz, help with weeding, sow some flowers, learn about composting, plant some vegetables, take care of watering tasks, and learn more about local greens you can easily grow at home. Learn, plant, and hang out together!
And the best part?
You’ll have the opportunity to take home some of the plants we’ll be cultivating together, or you can choose to plant them in your own raised bed if you opt for a Hochbeetpatenschaft.

Was ist ein Kleidertausch?
Ein Kleidertausch ist eine unterhaltsame und umweltfreundliche Möglichkeit, deinen Stil aufzufrischen, indem du saubere, gut erhaltene Kleidung (bitte keine Socken oder Unterwäsche) tauschst.
Wie funktioniert das?
Bring Kleidung mit, die du nicht mehr trägst, und tausche sie gegen neue Lieblingsstücke! Wenn du keine gebrauchte Kleidung mitbringen kannst, ist das auch kein Problem. Du kannst trotzdem einfach vorbeikommen und unsere Sammlung durchstöbern.

What is a clothing swap?
It’s a fun and eco-friendly way to refresh your style by exchanging clean and gently used clothing (no socks or underwear please).

Warum wissen wir so viel über die Klimakrise – und tun trotzdem so wenig?
In diesem interaktiven Vortrag beleuchtet Anna Pribil die psychologischen Mechanismen hinter unserem (Nicht-)Handeln in der Klimakrise. Dabei geht es um Klimaemotionen wie Angst, Schuld oder Überforderung, aber auch um die Grenzen individueller Verantwortung und die Notwendigkeit eines systemischen Wandels.
Der Fokus liegt auf der Frage: Wie kann aus Ohnmacht wieder Handlungskraft entstehen – im persönlichen Alltag, aber auch als Teil gesellschaftlicher Veränderung?
Außerdem gibt’s Raum für Austausch, Diskussion und konkrete Impulse zur Stärkung von Klimaresilienz und wirkungsvoller Klimakommunikation.
Vortragende: Anna Pribil, BEd. BSc. MSc. MA.
Anna Pribil ist Umweltpsychologin, Vortragende und angehende Psychotherapeutin. Nach ihrem Psychologiestudium sowie dem Masterabschluss in Global Studies an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz hat sie sich auf die psychologischen Dimensionen der Klimakrise spezialisiert.
Seit 2019 arbeitet sie selbstständig und widmet sich vor allem der Bildungsarbeit: In Vorträgen, Workshops und anderen Formaten vermittelt sie umweltpsychologisches Wissen und stärkt individuelle wie kollektive Klimaresilienz. Themen wie Klimaangst, Verhaltensveränderung und nachhaltiger Wandel stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt.
Darüber hinaus engagiert sie sich im Vorstand der Psychologists for Future und arbeitet projektbezogen mit verschiedenen Organisationen an der Schnittstelle von Umweltpsychologie, Gesellschaft und Transformationsprozessen.

We are excited to present another highlight from our Sustainability Week! Join us for an evening dedicated to \"Imagining a Brighter Future\", where we will explore how we can create a more sustainable world, with a particular focus on the future of cities. This event will be held in a hybrid format, just like last year’s successful movie night with the panel discussion Outgrow the System. The evening will feature both online and in-person speakers for an engaging and interactive experience.
The movie we’ll be screening is 2040 by Damon Gameau. After watching the film, we’ll dive into a thought-provoking discussion with our esteemed panelists, moderated by Julia Cas (Fridays for Future Graz). Climate Action: Driving Solutions for a Sustainable Future
Leaders from across sectors come together for an interactive, thought-provoking discussion on strategies to tackle global climate change.
Climate Action is a role-playing exercise that enables participants to explore the policies and investments needed to reach their climate change goals.
We are excited to highlight one of our Sustainability Week events: Climate Action - Climate & Energy Policy Negotiation Role-Play. This workshop allows participants to explore real-world policies and investments needed to combat climate change, offering hope based on the best climate science.
This workshop simulates a UN-convened conference, bringing together corporate CEOs, government leaders, NGOs, and stakeholders impacted by climate change. Participants are divided into delegations representing different energy and economic sectors, where they negotiate with each other to develop a global energy scenario using the En-ROADS simulator.
This setting provides participants with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the carbon and climate system, as well as the social and political dynamics of the climate challenge confronting us all.
After the workshop, there will be a buffet from Parks Bio Fairtrade Coffe Shop, providing an opportunity to talk and network in a more informal setting.
We’re excited about what’s ahead and how these insights can help shape a cleaner, more equitable energy future.
The workshop will be hosted by Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Christoph E. Mandl: Expert in Operations Research, former MIT Postdoc, and an advocate for systems thinking in climate solutions.
