Advanced R for Life Science researchR is a language and computational environment for statistics, advanced data analysis, machine learning and visualization; it is the most widely used programming language in bioinformatics.
Due to techological advances in molecular biology (genomics, large-scale systems biology) research in the life sciences is becoming increasingly data rich. The aim of this course is to provide students with a good understanding of how to use R for advanced data analyses. For this purpose, participants will learn key concepts for writing advanced R code.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to more proficiently use R for data analysis in life science research by applying loops, functions, control structures and create profound plots.

Introduction into R for Life Science researchR is a statistical program that can be used interactively to explore data or used as a programming language to implement complex data analyses. It is extensible via libraries which can add both new functions for analysis and new data for reference. The course participants will take the first steps with R and learn to master the basics. In several sections, they will cover its basic syntax, making them ready to undertake their own first data analysis using R.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be familiar with: data structures in R, basic commands, data import/export, installation of packages, help function in R, data visualizations with basic plot functions.

Grazer Impftag am 6.11.2021 referieren und diskutieren zu diesen Fragen die beiden Präsidenten der steirischen Ärztekammer und steirischen Apothekerkammer sowie namhafte Expertinnen und Experten aus dem Gesundheitsministerium, dem Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, der Impfstoffherstellung, der Virologie, der Hygiene und der Kinder- und Jugendheilkunde.
Dieser Kongress bietet einen Überblick was die neuen Impfungen können, was die Hintergründe für die Impfempfehlung für Kinder und Jugendliche ab dem 12. Green Labs Austria aims to connect laboratories in Austria that share the vision of sustainable research. We want to change the status quo of resource management and offer guidelines for a transition to environmentally aware research practices. We hope to achieve this by collaborating with groups and institutions from all disciplines. Specifically, we want to reform how scientists think about energy consumption, plastic consumption, and recycling. Green Labs Austria encourages everyone to participate and share ideas – small or large – for a sustainable research environment. For scientists of all disciplines, sustainable research practices should represent a natural part of our daily work and our passion.

Speaker: Green Labs Austria – Logan Hodgskiss
Logan is a founding member of the non-profit organization Green Labs Austria. Further, he is a PhD student in the Schleper Lab of the University of Vienna studying the nitrogen cycle. Specifically, he is focused on ammonia-oxidizing archaea and the role these organisms have in the global carbon and nitrogen cycles.

Participants learn how to structure their research data, how to merge different files, import and export data. Merging data, coding and labelling data in a meaningful manner is essential and provides the basis for later data analysis. Additional topics: Convert string variables to a numeric variables, convert categorical string variables to labeled numeric variables, create categorical variables from continuous variables, create a new variable that is calculated from other variables or create date variables.
Questions that are addressed in this workshop: What to do with missing values? How can I identify and remove duplicate observations? How to deal with outliers? How can I better structure my data in excel? How should I arrange my data file depending on my research design? What is important in the data collecting process? Do I have to consider the proposed statistical methods during the data management process?

• Slide scans available via internet after the course
