Hierbei werden in der Prävalenz dieser Erkrankungen Unterschiede in verschiedenen Bevölkerungsgruppen beschrieben. Während die Ursachen und das Patient:innenkollektiv heterogen sind, konnte ein gehäuftes Auftreten in  jenen Gruppen beschrieben werden, welche durch die sozioökonomischen Faktoren wie dem formellen Bildungsgrad und dem Einkommenslevel schlechter gestellt sind als ihre Mitmenschen. Diese Tatsache stellt eine mögliche Basis für zielgerichtete gesundheitspolitische Maßnahmen dar, um Hochrisikogruppen zu identifizieren und der Krankheitsentstehung frühzeitig vorzubeugen. In der folgenden Diplomarbeit wird hierzu die aktuelle sozialmedizinische Literatur in Bezug auf das Einkommen, sowie den Bildungsstand erörtert und der Status Quo in Österreich festgehalten.
