Sie stammt ursprünglich aus China, wurde jedoch bereits vor Tausenden von Jahren in Zentralasien angebaut und weltweit verbreitet. Anfangs waren rot-violette, weiße und gelbe Karotten bekannt, während die heute beliebte orange Variante vermutlich im 17. Jahrhundert in den Niederlanden gezüchtet wurde. Aufgrund ihres hohen Gehalts an ß-Carotin, Vitaminen, Ballaststoffen und Antioxidantien, ist die Karotte ein wichtiges Lebensmittel in der Gesundheitsvorsorge. Die genannten Inhaltsstoffe können entzündungshemmend, anticancerogen, kardioprotektiv wirken, das Immunsystem stärken und durch antioxidative Eigenschaft die Zellen schützen. Ihre vielseitige Verwendbarkeit – roh, gekocht, püriert oder als Saft – macht sie zu einem zentralen Bestandteil einer gesunden Ernährung. Der potenzielle Nutzen einer Nährstoffaufnahme hängt von der Qualität und der Quantität der Makro- und Mikronährstoffaufnahme ab. Zudem ist das Timing der Nährstoffzufuhr (= Nutrient Timing), welches als zeitspezifischer Verzehr bestimmter Lebensmittel definiert ist, entscheidend. In dieser Arbeit soll erläutert werden, welche Nährstoffe sich positiv auf die Gesundheit und den Muskelaufbau auswirken. Darüber hinaus werden die jeweiligen Aspekte im Kontext des Nährstoff-Timings diskutiert. Da die aktuelle Referenzliteratur und rezente Studien meist nur Teilbereiche dieses Themas analysieren, soll diese Arbeit eine Zusammenfassung der relevanten wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse darstellen. Darüber hinaus soll ein Überblick über die aktuell geltenden Ernährungsempfehlungen für Kraftsportler*Innen gegeben werden. Verschiedene Bewertungssysteme und Nährstoffverhältnisse zeigten dabei positive gesundheitliche Effekte bei Aufnahme von pflanzlichen Proteinen, niedrig glykämischen Kohlenhydraten, ballaststoffreichen und vollkornreichen Lebensmitteln, sowie Fettquellen mit mehrfach-ungesättigten Fettsäuren und einem hohen Anteil an Omega-3-Fettsäuren auf. Weiters zeigte sich, dass eine zeitlich gezielte Zufuhr von Nährstoffen einen positiven Einfluss auf den Muskelaufbau hat. Fette sollten daher vorzugsweise in der ersten Tageshälfte und nicht in zeitlicher Nähe zum Sport konsumiert werden. Die Aufnahme von Kohlenhydraten wird wiederum in der zweiten Tageshälfte und in zeitlicher Nähe zu einer körperlichen Betätigung empfohlen. Ähnliches gilt auch für eine Proteinaufnahme, welche über einen gleichmäßigen Zeitraum und eine ausgeglichene Menge über den Tag verteilt, zugeführt werden sollte. Spezifische Ernährungsempfehlungen für Kraftsportler*Innen richten sich wiederum nach den jeweiligen Trainingszielen. Sie variieren zwischen 1.4 – 2.2 g Protein/kg Körpergewicht/Tag, 3 – 7 g Kohlenhydrate/kg Körpergewicht/Tag und 0.5 – 1.5 g Fett/kg Körpergewicht/Tag. Während Veränderungen der Körperzusammensetzung hauptsächlich in der Aufbauphase und der Wettkampfvorbereitung auftreten, findet eine durch Manipulation des Kohlenhydrat-, Wasser- und Salzhaushaltes bedingte Verbesserung des physischen Erscheinungsbildes in der Wettkampfwoche und am Wettkampftag statt.
