Characterized by repetitive scarring of lung tissue, loss of alveolar integrity and compromised gas exchange, IPF has limited treatment options with patients ultimately requiring lung transplantation. While current therapeutics slow disease progression and lung function decline, they do not halt or reverse the established disease.
