Es ist unklar, wie der weitere klinische Verlauf von Patienten und Patientinnen ist, bei welchen eine hochgradige Stenose der Arteria carotis interna (ACI) diagnostiziert wurde. Diese Untersuchung analysiert das Langzeitüberleben von Octogenarians mit hochgradiger asymptomatischer ACI-Stenose unter konservativer Behandlung und prüft, ob objektivierbare Selektionskriterien für die Indikationsstellung zur konservativen Therapie oder Intervention existieren. Auch wenn die Behandlung von Tumorschmerzen eine medizinische Herausforderung darstellt, so erscheint ein adäquates Schmerzmanagement entscheidend, um das Leid der Betroffenen bestmöglich zu lindern. Zur Verbesserung der neuropathischen Tumorkomponente kommen die beiden Antikonvulsiva Pregabalin und Gabapentin zum Einsatz. Zum Einsatz der beiden Wirkstoffe bei Palliativpatient*innen liegen genauso begrenzt Daten vor wie Informationen zum Kurzzeiteffekt dieser Antikonvulsiva.
