Fatigue is also a common and debilitating symptom affecting the majority of people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). However, contribution factors of fatigue are poorly understood in both populations. Given limited time resources for assessment of fatigue and diverse contributing factors (sleep quality, physical activity, resilience) in clinical practice, this study aimed to explore whether visual analog scales (VAS) could serve as a potential alternative to more comprehensive, standardized questionnaires. Additionally, the study sought to identify the most relevant predictors of fatigue in the general population and in pwMS. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, demographic data, clinical variables (disease duration, severity of disability), and questionnaires assessing fatigue (FSMC), resilience (RS-13), anxiety and depression (HADS), sleep quality (PSQI), physical activity (GPAQ), as well as VAS corresponding to the questionnaires were collected. We obtained data from participants in the general population (N = 138) via an online survey and from pwMS (N = 53) during routine clinical check-ups. Results: Fatigue was highly prevalent, affecting 50% of the general population and 68% of pwMS. Fatigue assessed via the FSMC correlated strongly with the VAS of trait fatigue in the general population and pwMS (r = .61/r = .60). Strong to moderate correlations between VAS and questionnaires were observed for sleep quality and resilience in both populations, whereas for physical activity only a weak correlation was found in the general population and no significant correlation in pwMS. In the general population, resilience was the strongest predictor of total fatigue (β = -.39, p < .001), followed by depressive symptoms (β = .22, p = .01) and education (β = -.15, p = .04), explaining 30% of variance. Among pwMS, anxiety (β = .42, p = .001) was the most important predictor of total fatigue, followed by resilience (β = -.31, p = .01) and age (β = .25, p = .04), explaining 33% of variance. Conclusion: We found that fatigue is highly prevalent in both populations. While VAS are not a suitable replacement for more comprehensive questionnaires to assess physical activity or the main outcome of a study, they may serve as a potential alternative for fatigue, sleep or resilience assessment if defined as covariates. The prediction models showed that resilience and emotional factors are important contributors to fatigue. It accounts for approximately 40-50% of all lung cancers, representing 50-60% of all NSCLC cases. Within this spectrum, approximately one-third differentiate along a mucinous pathway. It has been claimed, that mucinous adenocarcinomas behave worse than their non-mucinous counterpart. Invasive mucinous, colloid, and enteric adenocarcinomas are variants of adenocarcinomas. Between 2002 and 2012 we identified 335 surgically resected cases of mucinous and non-mucinous adenocarcinomas. The aim of the study is to compare the overall survival as well as the progression-free survival of mucinous versus non-mucinous adenocarcinomas of the lung. We also investigated 76 mucinous adenocarcinomas, including colloid variants, for their predominant and secondary patterns, their different form of mucin storage and release, their expression of cytokeratins 7 and 20, TTF1 and CDX2, and MUC1, 2 and 5AC proteins, their expression of p14, and p16 proteins, their possible rearrangements for EML4ALK and ROS1, as well as their KRAS mutational status and correlated this with survival. Die Studienlage zur Kombination mehrerer sensorischer Einflüsse zur Resynchronisation ist derzeit limitiert. Diese Arbeit soll die Auswirkungen einer Lichttherapie beziehungsweise der Projektion einer Waldszenerie auf die Veränderung der Tryptophanwerte sowie des PSQI-Scores bei herzchirurgischen Patient:innen auf der Intensivstation untersuchen. Sie basiert auf den Ergebnissen und Untersuchungen der Studie „Postoperative Delir-Prävention auf der Intensivstation durch Chronotherapie mittels Videoprojektion“, kurz „Waldstudie“. Ziel dieser Studie war es Delir zu präsentieren und chronobiologische Entgleisungen nach herzchirurgischen Eingriffen zu verbessern. Neuere Forschung zeigt jedoch, dass bereits im Vorschulalter sprachliche Auffälligkeiten und Einschränkungen der Teilhabe am Alltag auftreten können. Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, zu untersuchen, welche sprachlichen Auffälligkeiten Kinder mit prälingualer einseitiger Schwerhörigkeit im Alter von null bis sechs Jahren aufweisen und welche sprachrelevanten Entwicklungsbereiche betroffen sind. Es wurde ein Mixed-Methods-Review durchgeführt. Die Recherche erfolgte in internationalen Datenbanken ohne zeitliche Einschränkung, jedoch auf englisch- und deutschsprachige Publikationen begrenzt. Eingeschlossen wurden empirische Studien mit Kindern bis sechs Jahren und prälingualer einseitiger Schwerhörigkeit. Insgesamt gingen zwölf Studien in die Analyse ein. Die methodische Qualität wurde mithilfe des „Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool“ (MMAT, Version 2018) bewertet. Its main focus was the detection of biomarkers in common metabolic disorders including diabetes mellitus (DM), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as the complex interaction of biomarkers between these research areas. A better interdisciplinary understanding and development of new diagnostic approaches was also a purpose of this thesis. Therefore, chapter I, Biomarker detection with new electrochemical sensor systems, is meant as a developmental technical basis with the aim to serve as framework for the detection and monitoring of biomarkers involved in glucose metabolism. \r\nAdditionally, chapter II, biomarker research in common metabolic disorders using longitudinal study data, and chapter III, detection of PCOS biomarkers after isoflavone intervention, are also linked by using several biomarker approaches and the special need for a point-of-care (POC) testing solution. This will be possible done? by the newly developed analytical method in this thesis - electrochemical biomarker detection. \r\nIn this thesis, data from 1050 patients, including over 2800 datasets were collected, sorted, monitored and categorized over the years. The whole dataset includes more than 300 clinically relevant parameters and in addition 650.000 genotype analyses, NMR metabolomic results, and questionnaire data. Parts of this thesis was already published as one first author paper with an additional one currently in submission.
