Die Therapie der PPP ist nach wie vor schwierig, da es nur wenige zugelassene Therapieoptionen gibt. Die Tiefe dieser Gelenksrolle gilt als zentraler diagnostischer Parameter und wird für gewöhnlich mit der Magnetresonanztomographie präzise ermittelt. Eine flächendeckend verfügbare und vergleichsweise weniger zeit- und kostenintensive Modalität ist das konventionelle Röntgenbild des Kniegelenks. Gegensätzlich dazu hat vermehrtes Suchen von Gesundheitsinformationen Auswirkungen auf Ängste, genauer gesagt fördert dieses Verhalten das Auftreten einer „Gesundheits-Anxiety“.
