Antibiotika werden in der Zahnheilkunde hauptsächlich zur Behandlung von oralen Infektionen eingesetzt, welche durch eine konservative Behandlungsmethode nicht beherrschbar sind. Aufgrund verschiedenster Grunderkrankungen, wie z.B. Bluthochdruck, kardiovaskuläre Erkrankungen, Diabetes oder chronischer Schmerzzustände, erhalten insbesondere ältere Patienten teilweise gleichzeitig unterschiedlichste Substanzen zu deren Behandlung. In der Zahnheilkunde werden antimikrobielle Medikamente für längere Zeit verschrieben, wodurch sich auch die Wahrscheinlichkeit möglicher Arzneimittelwechselwirkungen erhöht. Fortwährende Untersuchungen ergeben immer mehr Informationen über die verschiedenen Interaktionen, wobei aber nicht alle Wechselwirkungen von klinischer Relevanz sind.\r\nDas Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, anhand einer Literaturrecherche und mit Hilfe von Lehrbüchern die relevanten Interaktionen mit den in der Zahnmedizin gebräuchlichen Antibiotika Erythromycin, Clarithromycin, Doxycyclin, Metronidazol und Ciprofloxacin herauszufinden und zu beschreiben. Hierfür wurde mit Hilfe einer PubMed- Suche nach den Stichwörtern. ¿drug interactions¿, ¿erythromycin¿, ¿clarithromycin¿, ¿doxycycline¿, ¿metronidazole¿ und ¿ciprofloxacin¿ gesucht und die ausgewählten Interaktionen beschrieben. Anhand des Literaturverzeichnisses der ausgewählten Artikel wurden weitere relevante Studien bzw. Arbeiten gesucht.\r\nZweiwertige Kationen können in der Resorptionsphase bestimmter Antibiotika interagieren, während Antibiotika selbst den enterohepatischen Kreislauf von Hormonen stören können. Manche Antibiotika lösen eine Alkoholunverträglichkeit aus. Ein Großteil der Medikamente wird durch das Cytochrom P-450 Enzymsystem verstoffwechselt, welches sich im endoplasmatischen Retikulum der Hepatozyten und der Enterozyten befindet. Die in der Zahnmedizin gebräuchlichen Antibiotika sind als Inhibitoren oder Substrate dieses Systems bekannt.
