Das Nierenzellkarzinom ist weltweit das sechst-häufigste Karzinom bei Männern und das zehnt häufigste bei Frauen. In den vergangenen Jahren gab es stetige Fortschritte in der Behandlung des Nierenzellkarzinoms, zuletzt fanden die Checkpoint-Inhibitoren ihren Durchbruch in der Behandlung von zahlreichen Krebsarten, so auch dem Nierenzellkarzinom. Abseits der im Zeitalter der Tyrosinkinaseinhibitoren etablierten IMDC-Klassifikation (Motzer-Kriterien), gibt es aktuell keine relevanten und klinisch etablierten prognostischen sowie prädiktiven Biomarker. Der sogenannte COP-NLR Score wurde bisher nur im Zeitalter der Tyrosinkinaseinhibitoren untersucht.
